Introducing the Roompact Blog Cohort 2024

We’d like to introduce the Roompact Blogging Cohort for the upcoming year!

Roompact hires bloggers to further increase our contributions to the field through the free dissemination of ideas and knowledge. Every year we refresh our blog cohort with new writers. Earlier this spring, we did a search for part-time bloggers, professionals who liked to write and who were looking for a little side hustle. Below you can learn a little more about the writers that will be sharing their talents with you in the coming year. We’ve already got some really interesting and exciting pieces planned.

If you’d like to join the Roompact Blog Cohort, be on the look out for an announcement in January 2025.  We’ll likely run a very similar process to the one we ran this year.

Joshua McPhatter

Joshua McPhatter (he/him/his) is a passionate student success administrator and educator. With a wealth of experience in Housing and Residence Life across various institutions, Josh currently serves as the Associate Director for Residential Living at Temple University. His professional interests include enhancing campus partnerships, training and development initiatives, assessment, and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. When he’s not working on campus, Josh is rooted in his community- whether he’s engaging in recreational sports, contributing to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., or simply enjoying quality time with family and friends.

Alex Baker Caricature

Alex Baker (he/him/his) has worked in higher education since he started pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in 2010 at the University of Central Oklahoma. His first student-appointed role was the 3rd West Floor Representative (and this was a big deal to him at the time), and later he found himself involved as a Resident Assistant, Program Assistant, and held many roles in the Student Programming Board where he planned campus-wide events. Alex started his professional journey in 2015 as a Residence Hall Manager at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where he later earned his MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Alex currently serves at the CARE Team and Student Support Program Director in the Office of the Dean of Students. Alex loves all things Disney and is a proud Swiftie.

Sam Ferrigno

Sam Ferrigno (she/hers) is the Coordinator for Residential Student Development Initiatives at George Mason University with six years of professional experience in higher education. As a professional, she is passionate about designing co-curricular learning experiences for residential students. Sam enjoys integrating her personal passion for gaming into her day-to-day work, using board, video, and role-playing games to explore real life themes and lessons with her students. Outside of work you can find Sam hanging out with her dog, playing indie video games, and browsing Etsy for her next hobby to hyperfixate on.

Stephanie Carter-Atkins

Dr. Stephanie Carter-Atkins (she/her/hers) has worked as a Residence Life professional for over 20+ years. Stephanie currently serves as the Executive Director of Residence Life and Housing at the Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.  Stephanie completed her undergraduate studies at the Florida State University, her Masters in College Student Affairs Administration at the University of Georgia and her doctorate from Capella University. Stephanie enjoys engaging in conversations regarding supervision, leadership and her all-time favorite…burpees! When not at work, you will find Stephanie with her husband and son or doing her best to lift some heavy weights with her friends while doing Crossfit.

Colin Varnet

Colin Varnet (he/him/his) is currently in his junior year at The University of Connecticut, and serves as a Senior Resident Assistant. He is currently pursuing a B.S. in Molecular & Cell Biology and a B.A. in History. When not in class he can be found playing saxophone in UConn’s marching and pep bands.
