Why are you excited to work at Roompact?

After my time in residence life, I took a position as a full-time developer at a software company. One of the things I missed most was the sense of teamwork and camaraderie that was such big part of my student affairs experience. As a residence life software company, I’m excited to come back to Roompact where it blends my talents and skills with the culture of student affairs.

I also know well the value that good tools can bring to administrators. Iā€™m excited to help bring those tools to more campuses allowing them to do their work better and more efficiently.

How did you get into software development?

Computers, software development, and technology are in my DNA. Both of my parents have a background in computing, and although at first I tried not to get into software development, it may have been all but inevitable.  Uniquely, I first started working in software development within housing and residence life. As a Complex Director, I frequently helped out with tech-related questions and projects. Ultimately this led to a unique position for me maintaining and creating applications for the department, not all too dissimilar to what Roompact does today.

What’s your favorite memory of working in residence life?

This isn’t a specific memory per se, but for me it was always about the people–my fellow coworkers. They care passionately about helping others, and have a lot of fun doing it. I was first inspired when I was a resident assistant. Slowly I found myself pulled into the field and continued to advance at the university. To this day, I still value many of the friendships and relationships I developed during my time in residence life.

What do you do for fun?  Any hobbies?

I like learning new things and figuring out how things work, so tinkering with computers and electronics is a big passion of mine. I also got into ham (amateur) radio. I picked up this passion from my parents who also enjoyed the hobby. It’s really nerdy, but something I love. I got a license when I was in high school, but recently returned back to it as a hobby.

Fun fact?

I was in a dunk tank on The Ellen Show. (Surprising to me… they heat the water… unlike the dunk tanks that student activities offices often get.) šŸ™‚
